M&Gs faceless and fabricated claims

23 August 2013

The Office of the ANC Chief Whip dismisses with contempt todays Mail & Guardian story (ANC MPs spring to Pules defence) alleging some ANC MPs attempted to save former minister of communications Dina Pule from being sanctioned by Parliament this week. The report by Andisiwe Makinana, which borders on sensationalistic journalism, relies completely on malicious hearsay, gossip and fabrications from sources purporting to be ANC MPs.

As the majority party in parliament, it is the ANC that led the sanctioning of the former minister, it is the ANC that referred the matter to law enforcement agencies for criminal investigation, and it is the ANC that called for the speedy review of the ethics code to make sanctions harsher. Such an unequivocal demonstration of intolerance to wrongdoing by the ANC makes complete nonsense of M&Gs overwhelmingly fabricated and sensationalised claims dressed as investigative journalism.
