MOTION CONGRATULATING PRIME MINISTER NTSOKOANE MATEKANE
The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House
- congratulates the inauguration of newly elected Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane, in Maseru on Friday, 28 October 2022,
- notes that Matekane was elected following elections that took place in Lesotho in early October 2022, where he won 56 of the 79 constituencies,
- recalls that the Kingdom of Lesotho provided shelter and support to South African liberation movement in the fight against apartheid,
- recognises that the relations between the two countries are based on shared language, history, and culture,
- understands that the Kingdom of Lesotho had undergone a difficult path towards the restoration of peace, security and stability over the past eight years
- commends the people of the Kingdom of Lesotho for their determination to forge a stable and peaceful country;
- welcomes the commitment of the government of the Kingdom of Lesotho to give prioritisation to the issue of justice and reconciliation; and
- wishes Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane much success in his new position of responsibility.
