MOTION ON THE PASSING OF THE FORMER MP AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF UMKHONTO WESIZWE MILITARY VETERANS ASSOCIATION (MKMVA), MR KEBBY MMANUEL RAMAOTOANA MAPHATSOE
Draft resolution (Chief Whip of the Majority Party): That the House -
(1) notes with deep sadness the passing of African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) and former President of Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), Mr Kebby Emmanuel Ramaotoana Maphatsoe on 31 August 2021;
(2) further notes that Mr Maphatsoe became a Member of Parliament in 2014 and at the time of passing he was serving as a Whip of the Study Group on Sports, Arts and Culture;
(3) remembers that he previously served in the Portfolio Committee on Police as Whip of the Study Group and was a former Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans from 2014 to 2019;
(4) recalls that his long political history includes training as a political soldier of Umkhonto weSizwe in Uganda;
(5) further recalls that he is a former member of the Congress of South African Students (COSAS), Soweto Youth Congress(SOYCO) and South African Youth Congress (SAYCO);
(6) believes that his passing has robbed the country of a dedicated, loyal and patriotic freedom fighter, a robust and fearless legislator and a capable leader; and
(7) conveys its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the ANC.
