MOTION ON THE PASSING OF THE FORT HARE UNIVERSITY LAW STUDENT NOSICELO MTEBENI

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

1. notes with shock and sadness the passing of Nosicelo Mtebeni, a fourth-year law student at the University of Fort Hare on Thursday 19 August 2021;

2. further notes that the 23-year-old Nosicelo was allegedly killed and her body dismembered by her boyfriend after an alleged altercation at her boyfriend's residence in the suburb of Quigney in East London;

3. understands that she stayed in a private accommodation in East London which is not under the university's control;

4. condemns the barbaric and shameful acts committed against women in our country;

5. trusts that the criminal justice system will ensure a speedy prosecution for the accused; and

6. expresses its sorrow and condolences to the family of Nosicelo Mtebeni.
