Motion on Thembi Mtshali-Jones winning Lifetime Achievement Award
The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House
1. notes that on Wednesday 3 November 2015 Multiple award-winning actress, singer and playwright, Thembi Mtshali-Jones added the Arts & Culture Trust Lifetime Achievement Award for Theatre to her extensive list of accolades;
2. recalls that Thembi has been in the industry since Welcome Msomi's epic Zulu Shakespearean tragedy Umabatha and toured the world as one of South Africa's best actresses;
3. further recalls that locally she became known by the name of her character in the television acting sitcom Sgudi Snayis': Sis' Thoko;
4. acknowledges that she is hailed as one of South Africa's most celebrated artists and internationally acclaimed, owing to her talents as a singer, actress and playwright;
5. acknowledges that other Lifetime Achievement Award Winners include: Don Mattera for Literature, Omar Badsha for Visual Art, Johnny Mekoa for Arts Advocacy, Alfred Hinkel for Dance and Caiphus Semenya for Music; and
6. congratulates Thembi Mtshali - Jones on her latest achievement.
