Motion without notice by the ANC Chief Whip on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

I move without notice, that the House;
Noting;
That 17th of October has been declared by the United Nations Organisation as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty;
Further noting;
That the United Nations Organisation designated this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries, particularly in developing countries;
Recalls;
That the theme for this year`s international day for the eradication of poverty is " Working together out of poverty"
Further recalls;
That since the second world war, the world has experienced three successful development programmes specifically and consciously aimed at the eradication of poverty and underdevelopment. These were the Marshal Plan to reconstruct war-ravaged Europe, the East Asian growth and development programme, and European Union integration programme;
Recommends;
That, as the experience we have gained over the last six decades on development indicates the strong involvement of government in efforts to eradicate poverty;
Commends;
The work done by the United Nations Organisation and other relevant agencies dealing with development.
