Motion without Notice by Honourable Busisiwe Veronica Mncube on parent participation in schools

Chairperson, I hereby without notice: that the Council-
Notes and supports the call of Gauteng MEC of Education Barbara Creecy at a meeting with parents at the Diepsloot Combined School in Gauteng to assist the Department of Education in what she calls `Operation wake up` which is a call for parents to assist our schools in ensuring that our children are ready and arrive at school on time;
Further notes that the call made by the MEC Barbara Creecy is in line with President Zuma`s non-negotiables that teachers and learners need to be in class on time and to constructively work for seven-hours on each day; and
Welcomes this initiative and calls upon all provinces and parents at large to emulate such an innovative call as an important initiative to create a partnership between parents and schools to address the problem of late coming in schools which is one of the contributors to learners missing crucial time for lessons and education.
