Resolution of the UN General Assembly on Cuba Blockade

J Tshabalala

The African National Congress welcomes the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on the 7th November 2019 with regards to the 60 year old United States of America (USA) blockade against the Republic of Cuba where 187 countries voted in favour of the resolution demanding the ending of the illegal; and immoral blockade. Only three countries voted against this resolution including Apartheid Israel while two countries abstained.

The ANC believes that this resolution is a step forward for those within the international community, as the Cuban revolution inspired peace-loving people around the world in the same way they inspired and assisted in the defeat of apartheid South Africa. This is indeed a defeat of the right wing neo-liberal offensive globally. We hope this resolution will end the blockade by the Western Cape government against medical students being trained in Cuba.
