Statement By Mr George Lekgetho On The National Police Day

18 February 2010

The ANC fully endorses the long-overdue celebratory programme with was held to mark National Police Day, on 29 January 2010.

We firmly believe that this event went a long way in showing our appreciation, as a nation, to the thousands of police officers who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect us. It is unfortunate that opposition parties, like the DA- do not understand the importance of having a motivated police force. The celebrations that took place on National Police Day were Government`s way of saying Thank you!

We also want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to many police officers who have died while carrying out their duties. Let their dedication to uphold the law and protect the people of South Africa, be an inspiration to us all.

We congratulate Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Deputy Minister Fikile Mbalula and National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele for marking this year`s National Police Day with a celebratory programme to boost morale and show appreciation to our police officers.

I thank you!
