Work of Parliament continues as normal
2 November 2010
The Office of the Chief Whip of the Majority Party has taken note of the number of resignations by several ANC members of parliament, some of whom would take over positions in other spheres of government.
The Chief Whip is confident that these comrades will continue to serve our people with excellence and dedication in their new deployments. We congratulate and wish them well.
New MPs are being appointed to fill the vacant seats.
We wish to indicate that the process of assigning comrades to the vacant positions of chairpersons of portfolio committees, which were created as a consequence of these resignations as well as the appointment of former incumbents to the national executive, is underway. We hope to conclude this process before parliament rises on November 18.
In the interim, a number of MPs, most of whom are Whips, have been selected to act in those positions. This has resulted in scheduled meetings of committees and other programmes of parliament continuing as normal.
