The African National Congress (ANC) Parliamentary Caucus supports and welcomes the decisive legal action taken today, 30 September 2026, by ANC Member of Parliament, Imraan Subrathie, in lodging an official complaint of racism and Islamophobia at the Equality Court, sitting at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.

This legal step follows a deeply disturbing and widely circulated recorded incident of blatant racism and Islamophobia that occurred in Norwood on 21 September 2026.

The ANC reiterates its unwavering commitment to the values enshrined in our Constitution, which guarantees human dignity, equality, and freedom from discrimination for all people living in South Africa, regardless of their race, religion, or cultural background.

We maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward any manifestations of bigotry, Islamophobia, and racial hatred that seek to divide our communities and undermine our hard-won democracy and we call upon all residents and civil society to stand united against hatred, reject prejudice in all its forms, and actively foster an inclusive society built on mutual respect and diversity.

We maintain our full confidence in our judicial system and trust that the Equality Court will thoroughly investigate this matter and hold the perpetrators fully accountable.
