ANC Study Group welcomes the signing of the Collective Agreement on Wage Increases in the Public Service

28 July 2021

The ANC Study Group on Public Service and Administration, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation welcomes the signing of the collective agreement on wage increases in the Public Service.

The Collective agreement attained a majority on the 26 July 2021, having been signed by various unions, including The South African Democratic Teacher’s Union (SADTU), the National Professional Teacher’s Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA), the Health & Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (HOSPERSA), the Public Service Association of South Africa (PSA) and the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA).

The agreement was reached in one of the most challenging times that the country has faced, considering the current context of COVID-19, the country’s fiscal constraints and the global recession. However, as the ANC, we maintain our resolution of making the public service an employer of choice by looking after the interest of its employees. To the ANC and the Study Group, the outcome of the negotiations is a win considering the current chaotic and unpredictable environment  we find ourselves in. Although the process was lengthy, as a leading and caring government, notwithstanding the fiscal standing of the country, we have balanced our heads.

An extended gratitude goes out to all who played a critical role in the negotiations, from Government and the Labour Unions.
