The ANC Parliamentary Caucus welcomes the Minister of Finance’s decision to extend the temporary fuel levy relief until June 2026. National Treasury, together with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, introduced a temporary reduction of R3 per litre in the General Fuel Levy for petrol and diesel from 1 April 2026 to 5 May 2026. Extending this relief will continue to support households, workers and businesses facing rising living costs.
The ANC Parliamentary Caucus believes this measure will help reduce pressure on transport and other everyday expenses, at a time when global oil prices remain high because of international conflict.
Reducing the cost of living remains a key priority of the ANC Manifesto, with a focus on making basic goods and services more affordable for all South Africans.
The Caucus also welcomes increased use of commuter rail, as passenger trips doubled from 39 million to 77 million over the past year. We will continue to monitor measures aimed at lowering the cost of electricity and water, which are essential services for all communities.
