ANC STUDY GROUP ON INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION STATEMENT ON THE OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

20 May 2025

The ANC study group in International Relations and Cooperation fully supports President Cyril Ramaphosa’ official visit to the United States, as it represents a critical opportunity to strengthen diplomatic relations, advance economic cooperation, and promote South Africa’s interests on the global stage.

This moment offers a valuable chance to correct misconceptions and clarify misinformation. We believe President Ramaphosa will have a constructive engagement with his American counterpart.

We also believe the meeting will yield positive outcomes that will benefit all South Africans.

At the same time, we firmly condemn all actions and rhetoric aimed at undermining the democratic progress our nation has made. The consolidation of democracy is a collective achievement that must be safeguarded. Attempts to erode institutions, disrupt national unity, or reverse democratic gains are unacceptable and must be rejected by all who believe in a free, just, and inclusive society.

We mustn’t allow misinformation to erode hard won  democratic gains and protect democratic gains. We will not allow any groups or individuals to undermine the sweat, blood and tears which have led us to a democratic South Africa.

We stand in support of a leadership that seeks to elevate our country through dialogue, partnership, and respect for constitutional order.

We call on all South Africans to stand behind our President, our government and our country

Issued by the the Whip of the ANC Study group on International Relations and Cooperation, Cde Andisiwe Kumbaca
