ANC welcomes Small Business Development support for Township and Village – based enterprises

26 May 2020

The ANC in Parliament has today Tuesday, 26 May 2020 welcomed the announcement by the Small Business Development Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni for support to informal micro and small enterprises co-operatives as an additional measure to support granted to Spaza shops approved by Cabinet in February 2020.

Most informal traders and small enterprises have suffered massive loss of income during COVID – 19 and this assistance by the Small Business Development Department will be a great boost during these difficult economic times.

The latest announcement will see support granted to bakeries and confectioneries; small scale clothing and textile co-operatives owners as well traders in the automotive sector.

Partnering with both the Small Enterprises Development Agency ( SEDA) as well as the Small Enterprises Finance Agency ( SEFA); the Department has ensured collaboration with established banks such as Standard Bank and Nedbank working with the agencies to provide support to traders and co-operatives to complete the long and tedious application process that often accompanies such endeavours.

The ANC believes that with the gradual re-opening of the economy, the informal sector will require all the support from Government to ensure the sustainability of livelihoods. SEDA offices will be available to assist entrepreneurs to register with CIPC and SARS.

Application forms for these three schemes will be available online on https://smmesa.gov.za from Wednesday 27 May 2020 and more details will be made available on the departmental website

Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip Hon. Pemmy Majodina
