The African National Congress moves without notice: That The House:

  1. notes that International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on the 8th March and marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality;
  2. believes that IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people;
  3. understands that the theme this year ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress”, and take a stand with us using the hashtag #InvestInWomen;
  4. further understands that the theme for UN Women’s Day 2024 is aligned with the demands of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2023: ending gender-based violence through adequate funding; and
  5. calls on us all to unite to transform challenges into opportunities and shape a better future for all!
