MOTION ON THE PASSING OF TWO SOUTH AFRICAN MILITARY SOLDIERS AND INJURY OF THREE OTHERS ON DRC MISSION

The African National Congress moves without notice: That the House

  1. notes with deep sadness the passing on of two military soldiers, Capt Simon Mkhulu Bobe and Lance Corporal Irven Thabang Semono by a mortar bomb in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday, 14 February 2024;
  2. further notes that three more soldiers were wounded and were hospitalised;
  3. acknowledges that the soldiers were part of the troops sent by South Africa as part of its contribution to a force deployed by the Southern African Regional Bloc SADC to help Congo fight rebel groups in its restive eastern region; and
  4. conveys its deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
